SUMMARY:2020 Virtual Anodizing Conference
DESCRIPTION:The International Anodizing Conference & Exposition is an important annual event for AAC and the anodizing community. The Anodizing Conference is designed to be “in tune” with the needs and concerns of aluminum anodizing professionals\, and provides an outlet for industry professionals to gather vital technical and business information\, while “taking the temperature” of the overall anodizing industry. \n  \nGeorge Oh\, PhD George Oh\, PhD is a research and development chemist at Quaker Houghton\, in the Metal Finishing Division\, which he joined in 2017. He was previously a postdoctoral associate in the Chemistry Department at the University of Houston and the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Notre Dame\, and was a visiting scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids in Dresden\, Germany. He obtained his B.A. in Chemistry and Japanese at Dartmouth College and a Ph.D. in Chemistry at Northwestern University. \nNathan Sheffield is a Technical Service Chemist for Houghton International – Metal Finishing Division located in Alpharetta\, Georgia. In this role\, Nathan functions as a technical consultant and educator for Houghton’s metal finishing business.Since joining Houghton in 2013\, Nathan has traveled both domestically and internationally to conduct education classes for Houghton customers. Nathan has also become well versed in trouble shooting a multitude of anodizing and pre-paint issues. Over the past 5 years he has become well known in the industry for his anodizing knowledge and has represented Houghton at industry events.Nathan is a member of the AAC and is currently serving on the Education Committee. \nNathan SheffieldRichard MahnRichard Mahn has worked as a consultant\, as Richard Mahn Technical Services\, LLC\, with Houghton Metal Finishing Company of Alpharetta\, Georgia. \nRichard received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from Washington State University. His first position as an Organic Process Development Chemist was with Shell Company in Denver\, Colorado beginning on 6/6/66. \nHe started with Reynolds Metals Company in Troutdale\, Oregon in 1971\, working with raw materials and reduction processes for primary aluminum\, alloying\, and casting of billet and rolling ingot until 1980\, after spending 3 years at ALCASA in Puerto Ordaz\, Venezuela. He then returned to Richmond\, Virginia where he was given the responsibility of Anodizing and Electrolytic Coloring. \nHe worked for Reynolds International Inc. until 1985 when he was offered the opportunity to use his expertise with Specialty Chemicals and Services in Atlanta\, Georgia. \nAfter a series of company changes Richard eventually went to work for Houghton Metal Finishing Company in 1997 until his semi-retirement in 2008. \nRichard has been a part of the aluminum industry for more than 40 years\, with more than 30 years of experience in anodizing design\, startup\, maintenance\, and troubleshooting for a large variety of anodizing applications. He has written and presented dozens of industry papers\, for both AESF and the AAC.
