During the open stream continuous casting process, lubrication of the mold is vital to avoid sticking of the strand to the mold. Additionally, operators are looking to ensure surface quality, improve heat transfer, protect molds from deposits, minimize continuous casting fluid consumption, protect workers from fumes, odors, and flames, and increase process efficiency with higher casting speeds.

Optimizing Operations

Quaker Houghton has been able to refine their experience in developing casting oils by working with major steel manufacturers and establishing close relationships with OEMs to develop continuous casting mold release lubricants. To achieve the desired operational performance, we use selected fluids such as virgin base stocks or the highest grade natural esters.
