Extrusion Technology Trade Extrusion Technology Trade ShowThe marketplace & information center where aluminum extrusion industry suppliers connect directly with decision makers.Extrusion Technology Expo – ET ’22 is a comprehensive technical event that addresses virtually every facet of the aluminum extrusion industry through its quality programming, which spans across three days. The ET Seminar has a reputation for a commitment to excellence that is highly respected by those in the aluminum extrusion industry. Delegates from around the world gather to hear about the latest industry developments from the brightest minds in business and academia. At the core of the ET program are the technical sessions, and technical papers must be of the highest caliber to be accepted for presentation. All of the research is new or updated, which makes ET unique in the industry! May 4th: Innovative Approaches in Metalworking Fluid DevelopmentMay 5th: Anodized Aluminum Coating Thickness Variation in AlloysQuaker Houghton: Global leader in metal finishing chemicalsMay 4th: Innovative Approaches in Metalworking Fluid DevelopmentInnovative Approaches in Metalworking Fluid Development Philip Zhao – Tuesday, May 4th @ 8:30 AM The Metalworking fluid industry is facing many challenges such as machining new metal grades including light weight and high stress aluminum materials, the need for improved productivity while achieving excellent surface finish, superior emulsion stability with extremely low foam in a wide range of water hardness and quality, and the maintenance of fluid biostability and longevity. However, metalworking fluid formulators still widely use conventional formulation procedures, traditional knowledge and outdated equipment for new product development which limits their ability to develop innovative, high performing fluids efficiently. Houghton International Inc. has been pursuing innovative ways to develop novel technologies and new products to meet these new challenges. In this presentation we will discuss a systematic approach to develop water-based metal removal fluids which includes utilizing advanced instruments to evaluate product and additive lubricity as well as emulsion stability. We will also demonstrate more sophisticated and systematic formulation methods for new product development such as design of experiments (DoE) and statistical analysis tools such as ANOVA to optimize lubricity and emulsion stability. Finally, we will share some examples of good performance of our recently developed water based metal removal fluids from some successful field applications particularly in aluminum machining operations.May 5th: Anodized Aluminum Coating Thickness Variation in AlloysTesting The 720 Rule: Anodized Aluminum Coating Thickness Variation in some Aluminum Alloys George Oh – Wednesday, May 5th @ 9:00 AM Variations in aluminum alloys have marked effects on anodization process and the appearance of the final finish. The behavior of different alloys are well established in the field, but even when using metal all of the same alloy, using metal from different sources will result in noticeable differences in the finish. In this study, we take the workhorse aluminum alloy AA6063 and examine how, even within the accepted range, variations in the elemental composition in the allowed range of alloying elements affect the anodize process and the final product, characterized by parameters including gloss and appearance, color, generation of smut, and coating quality. These variations have implications for anodizers that use metal from multiple sources, especially relevant in light of the current aluminum supply, and emphasizes the importance of tighter control of alloy constituents when finishing aluminum.Quaker Houghton: Global leader in metal finishing chemicals As a global leader in metal finishing chemicals, we are your partner in progress with our full solution offering.
